Chubb Security Goes Green with New Response Vehicles
Johannesburg, South Africa, 3 May 2011 - Chubb Security, one of South Africa’s leading fire and security organisations, is contributing to the sustainability of the environment by going “green” with the upgrade of its response vehicles. Chubb Security is a business unit of UTC Fire & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
“During the next eight months, 150 of the company’s fleet of Toyota Yaris’ will be replaced with the Toyota Aygo which is more fuel efficient and emits far less carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions,” said Neville Rothfusz, divisional managing director, Chubb Monitoring and Response, Chubb Security.
“The CO2 emissions on the Toyota Aygo are only 105g/km compared to 127g/km on the Toyota Yaris T1 and 141g/km on the Toyota Yaris T3. That’s a saving of 22g and 36g respectively,” said Rothfusz.
In deciding to replace the fleet, Chubb selected the more fuel efficient models noting that green vehicles:
Emit smaller amounts of greenhouse gases into the environment, contributing less to global warming; and Create less smog in the air, reducing the risk of some health problems.
In addition, greater fuel efficiency can mean less reliance on expensive oil imports for the country.
“Chubb prides itself on being the benchmark for safety in the security industry. We give our response officers (ROs) the best protection so they can better safeguard our clients. In view of this we have ensured that the the vehicles are equipped with ABS brakes, electronic brake force distribution (EBD) and emergency brake assistance (BA),” said Rothfusz.
All the new vehicles will include Chubb’s software programmes used to track and monitor their vehicles such as enhanced vehicle tracking systems; vehicle dispatching solutions and DriveCam, an in-vehicle video camera to ensure their ROs drive safely and quickly to alarm activations.
“The remaining vehicles in the fleet will be changed over during the course of next year along with the company’s service vehicles. In addition, the entire fleet will be refreshed with the new Chubb corporate identity,” concluded Rothfusz.
